An Excerpt: Gratitude and Thanks
When I thought about what I was thankful for this past Thanksgiving I knew that I was thankful for all of the people who have touched my life and shaped me.
Most thankful for my grandmother Mary Ann Galbraith. She was the first to instill in me that I was somebody, I was important, I was amazing, and that I would grow to do great things. I was grateful to be immersed in her knowledge and culture. She’s the first to show me a lifestyle, even though, at the time I didn’t know that’s what it was. I got to see hard work and independence first hand. I experienced an amazing kind of love first hand. I was given the strength to be who I am and be free to be my absolute best self. Full of happiness, empathy, freeness, and love.
Fast forward, childhood ended and the woes that us adults experience occurred and life happened. It happened frequently. Life has a ludicrous way of kicking us while we are up and sitting on us while we are down. In our own time we get back up. I must say it is our resiliency that shows who we really are. It is in the action we take to get through it and get back up that really counts. In those times we have to have a system and a somebody or something that helps give us that strength. I have a system called Dare to Be You, where the steps include Identifying, re-identifying, or discovering who you are, following your heart, releasing fear, building confidence, motivation, inner strength, and reflection for action. All surfaced in me through the continued thoughts of the love, empowerment, and confidence my grandmother gave to me as a young woman. I want to be that person for other women.
